Topic: Why list

Why list with MyLiveStock and the Allied Farmers Livestock network?

MyLiveStock promotes your stock to a nationwide buyer network rather than just to your local region. With more buyers, you’re likely to get a better price.

MyLiveStock also gives you access to the Allied Farmers Livestock network, our flexible livestock marketing solutions, and our experienced livestock agents.

We specialise in dairy — and we already have a significant share of nationwide dairy herd sales.

Topic: Private sale

Can I promote my stock for sale privately as well as on MyLiveStock.co.nz?

If you list under Tender or SMA, you can’t sell the stock on your own behalf during the agreed listing period. If you attract a buyer for your stock during this period, they must either bid for the stock on MyLiveStock (if Tender) or contact the Allied Farmers Livestock agent to register interest (if SMA).

If your stock is an Open Listing, you’re able to sell privately.

Topic : Listing options

What listing option will get me the best price?

There are three listing options — Tender, Sole Marketing Agency (SMA) and Open Listing. Your Allied Farmers Livestock agent can discuss benefits of these different options.

Generally, Tender and SMA listings receive the most advertising and promotional support. This includes communications that advise members of current stock for sale — which can lead to an improved price for you.

SMA listings receive nationwide marketing. All negotiations are handled by an Allied Farmers Livestock agent.

Open Listings receive limited marketing support, but they still have nationwide listing details available on MyLiveStock.co.nz.

Topic: Tender

How does a Tender listing actually work?

Sellers set a reserve price and tender period with their Allied Farmers Livestock agent.

MyLiveStock members place live bids on stock and receive email and text updates if they’re outbid. There is no limit on the number of people who may tender for stock.

On the tender closing date, the Allied Farmers Livestock agent will discuss the bids you’ve received. Sellers can accept or reject the highest (or any) bid. Subject to you accepting the highest (or any) bid, the agent completes the sale contract details with the successful bidder.

On the agreed date the stock is delivered noting an inspection must take place prior to delivery as payment is due on delivery/settlement date.

Tenders encourage the best solution for both parties. Sellers receive and buyers pay market price for their stock. Buyers have control over how much they’re prepared to pay for good stock. Good-quality stock is hard to find, so tendering encourages buyers to pay for quality.

Topic: Length of tender

How long can I tender my herd for?

At the listing stage, your Allied Farmers livestock agent will recommend a tender period. Shorter tenders are usually best as they have a definitive cut-off period for buyers — and this creates a sense of urgency. Longer tender periods tend to attract less interest or bid activity. Buyers are in the market to purchase stock now, not in a few months’ time.

Topic: Placing bids

How do I place a bid?

Once you’ve registered, click on the stock you wish to bid for. In the ‘place bid’ area, enter the dollar amount per head you wish to bid.
